My client in Cornwall had just bought a wonderful holiday cottage in the beautiful village of Mousehole in Cornwall. Although it was already being used as a holiday cottage, it was tired and dated and my client wanted to make it look pretty and fresh.
The layout was already working well so the job was to concentrate on the finishes, adding some new furniture and introducing pretty finishing touches. My client has great taste herself but she still wanted some ideas for a fresh colour palette and new furniture.
I used Cornwall itself as the inspiration for a palette of weathered grey wood with white enlivened with blues, coral and pink.
When you are refurbishing a holiday cottage, you need to be careful to choose finishes that are safe and robust at the same time as making your cottage stand out from the competition. The previous owner had left behind some wooden furniture that was completely transformed by simply painting it in pale, chalky shades. Mousehole and the surrounding villages are full of great shops that sell decorative items so it wasn’t hard to find those pretty finishing touches that make a holiday cottage feel really homely and welcoming. Feedback from my client:
“Louise has a great understanding of my taste and style; however, she was able to suggest colour combinations and finishing touches that I would not necessarily have thought of and yet really loved. She fully understood the financial constraints of the project and only suggested solutions that were in keeping with my budget.” Lisa T
